3D modeling (Three Dimensional modelings) is a technique in computer graphics for the production of 3D digital representation of any object or surface.

What is 3D Modeling?

3D computer graphics, 3D modeling is the process of creating a three dimensional model of any surface (Inanimate or living) object through specific software. The product is called a 3D model. Someone working with a 3D model can be called a 3D artist. It can be displayed as a two-dimensional image through a process called 3D rendering or can be used in computer simulations of physical phenomena. Models can also be made physically using a 3D printing device.

A 3D artist uses specialized software to manipulate points in a virtual space (called vertices) to create a lattice: a collection of verticals that make up an object.

These 3D objects can be generated automatically or created manually by deforming the mesh otherwise manipulating the vertical.

3D MODELING PRESENTATION

3D models are used for many mediums, including Architectural plans, Buildings, Structures, Illustration, Engineering objects, Video games, Movies, and Commercial advertising.

The 3D modeling process produces a digital object capable of being fully animated, making it an essential process for character animation and special effects.

How 3D Modeling helps to develop magnificent structures?

While making 3D models, you combine the precision of virtual 3D modeling with the attractiveness of a physical object. Architects are mostly used to make large-scale models out of wood or foam, but more and more of them are embracing the benefits of 3D printing of their latest designs. Read on to find out why you are joining the 3D printing revolution!

How 3D Modelling beneficial for Architects

  • Customers can better visualize your architectural design
  • Reduce the time it takes to build a structural scale model
  • Models are printed in excellent quality and come in many materials
  • Easily re-edit, re-use and re-print your architectural 3D model

How does 3D Modeling work?

An artist usually begins by creating some primitive, such as a cube, sphere, or plane. Primeval is just an initial figure to start modeling.

The artist will create this basic form and manipulate it using various modeling tools. For 3D modeling, it is almost always a good idea to start quickly and work towards complexity.

Architectural 3D Modeling

3D modeling is a precise workflow that often involves careful placement of individual vertices to obtain the correct shape of the desired object.

The outer part of the mesh is made up of polygons that can be subdivided into smaller sizes to create more detail. These subdivisions are particularly necessary if the 3D model is to be animated.

Any joints that need to bend – such as the character’s knee or elbow – will need these additional polygons to ensure smooth motion.

Several tools exist to speed up the modeling process. Most programs include a mirroring technique that allows the artist to construct an odd model by working on only one half or one-quarter of the object.

This is particularly useful in character design because an artist only needs to model one side of the character, and the software will reflect its work along the desired axis, creating a fully symmetric object.

Other devices allow for quick deformation of a model surface.

For example, a noisy texture can be used to displace the mesh to obtain a more organic surface.

Or a subdivision surface tool can be used to simulate a high polygon count. In this way, the artist can work in a “non-destructive” process that preserves their original work. This is particularly important for more complex models that require experimentation to be correct.

Once the model is complete, the surface can be printed and textured.

3D Modeling is in trend

3D modeling is an integral part of many creative careers.  Engineers (mostly Civil, Mechanical and Electrical engineers) and architects use it to plan and design their objects. Animators and game designers rely on 3D modeling to bring their ideas to life. And every Hollywood blockbuster uses 3D modeling for special effects of cutting costs and speeding up production. Due to their value, a broad market for 3D models exists online.

3D modeling is fun but challenging. Unlike many graphic arts fields, 3D modeling has a substantial learning curve and specializes in sophisticated software. Beginners in 3D may be excluded from the time required to learn 3D modeling, but, with patience, they can create animations, architectural rendering, and video game graphics.
